Christmas Eve pic

Here I am in JeiFangBei square with two other PC volunteers and a random little Chinese lady who wanted her picture taken with the "laowai" (foreigners). What did I tell ya about how tiny the older people here are? 

(Note to self: wearing your hair like that makes your face look REALLY round. Yikes. I promise, I haven't gained 20 lbs since you last saw me.)

Rebecca- Hi. I am a friend of Liz and Brian. Our daughter was in PC in China and came home in May. I know how different Christmas is there for you than here! I wanted to wish you a very Merry Christmas and thank you for being there for your Chinese students! It will make a difference to them!
Thought I would share that for the 2 years my daughter was in China, her husband "borrowed" a potted plant f rom in front of the college library, lugged it up 6 stories, so she would have a Christmas tree!!!

Bye Bye Bali, Plus Daily Life

My grandma is not doing well. So, I am no longer going to Bali and Beijing over my break; instead, I'll be flying back to the U.S. to spend time with her and other family. I was looking forward to these trips, but Bali and Beijing will be there for a long while. Grandma comes first. I am sure those of you reading can understand and would do the same thing. Now, a few things to share about daily life in China: 1. Street cleaning trucks in my city play "Happy Birthday" in a high-pitched tone, over and over and over. There is also a techno version of Happy Birthday they play in clubs. How "Happy Birthday" became both of these things, I have no idea, but I never want to hear "Happy Birthday" again. 2. Overheard yesterday as I was walking home: a clothing store blasting "Jingle Bells" set to a disco-esque beat, including the phrases "Jingle all the way, oh what fun it is to ride in a one horse open sleee." A guy I barely knew in my city asked me to dinner, in 2009. We went, no chemistry (even as friends) from my point of view, so I was shocked when he asked me if I wanted to have dinner and watch a movie with him that weekend. Sometimes first dates just aren't great, so I said yes. But then, on the bus ride home, I realized he meant eat dinner and watch a movie at his apartment. I didn't feel comfortable doing this because I barely knew him and there was a certain BCI to this request (Booty Call Implication-- thanks Community !), so when I got home, I asked him if he'd mind if we did something else instead, like go to a local historical site.
